Morning ED,

Are you able to give any indications on Real Madrid's summer transfer plans/ targets?

Im expecting them to invest heavily and with Zidane now back do they have clear targets?

Thanks Ed.

{Ed002's Note - It is something like this:

Real Madrid would like a LB, A CB, possibly two, two CM, one AM, one RW, one LW, a Sand a versatile forward to move their rebuild on. They do not want to make a change to the goalkeepers unless pressed in to it.

Kepa Arrizabalaga (G) don't be surprised by a significant offer if a G is required
David De Gea (G) don't be surprised by a significant offer if a G is required but interest also from elsewhere

Junior Firpo (LB) preferred option
Nicolas Tagliafico (LB) looking less likely

Eder Militao (CB) expensive but done
William Saliba (CB) one for the future but a great deal of interest from elsewhere - looking unlikely
Mario Hermoso (CB) - Real Madrid have an option to take him back at a fixed fee seeing him as cheap cover. They were going to take him in January to see the season out and then decide what to do with him in the longer term - but the player fears the lack of game time at Real Madrid and will likely reject the opportunity.
Kalidou Koulibaly (CB) only if Varane leaves

Declan Rice (DM) has been watched but a move remains unlikely, certainly this summer

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (CM) lost out on FdJ and a less grief option to Pogba.
Miralem Pjanic (CM) - after losing out on FdJ and Saul, RM are looking to Pjanic or possibly Rabiot or SMS to replace Kroos
Paul Pogba (CM)
Adrien Rabiot (CM) - issues with his "agent"; if they can be overcome then something can happen

Joao Felix (AM) - may be too expensive given other needs
Bruno Fernandes (AM) - if nothing can be done with JF
Nicolo Zaniolo (AM) - money may not stretch, lots of interest from elsewhere and player wants to stay in Rome - unlikely
Nabil Fekir (AM) watched again - interest gone
Paulo Dybala (AM/F) RM not convinced that the transition to Spain will be an easy one for him, but he remains an option
Pablo Sarabia (AM/W) - Real Madrid has an option and the player turned down the offer to join Chelsea mid season but both Chelsea and PSG will look to a summer move whilst Sevilla will look to a new contract
Christian Eriksen (AM) unlikely

Kylian Mbappe (RW/F) - seen as the Ronaldo replacement

Eden Hazard (LW/RWAM//F)
Sadio Mane (LW/F) Zidane was interested in SM before he moved to Liverpool and his performances this season mean that they could look again - but at this time I am not aware of any approach to Liverpool, but I cannot say if there has been an approach to his agents - would be a fall back position
Julian Brandt (LW/AM) fall back position
Neymar (LW) not going to happen

Luka Jovic (F) complicated but someone is trying to address that
Mauro Icardi (S) RM are considering their options for the striker postion, and the potential grief certain players can bring

Outbound:

Thibault Courtois (G) situation needs resolving
Keylor Navas (G) situation needs resolving

Dani Carvajal (RB) Odriozola will be first pick and the club are looking to promote from within (Sergio Lopez)
Marcelo (LB)
Theo Hernandez (LB)

Jesus Vallejo (CB)
Nacho Fernandez (CB)
Sergio Ramos (CB) maybe will take a couple of years playing elsewhere and then a final year back at Sevilla - perhaps not this summer
Raphael Varane (CB)

Casemiro (DM) will likely stay

Toni Kroos (CM) available but expensive
Luka Modric (CM) time has come

Isco (AM) up in the air still

Gareth Bale (W) is available to be sold or used in a part exchange deal but nobody is interested at this time - seen as one of the main reasons that the rebuild will take longer than planned as he wants to stay
Marco Asensio (AM/LW) interest from Inter offered as part of a deal with an English side but the player has said he does not want to leave

Karim Benzema (S) signed a new contract but is available

Marca reports that an agreement has been reached between chelsea and madrid for hazard.

Im aware its not a signed agreement but looks like 100mill it is. for a player on his last year that's a brilliant deal.

Did you expect Zidane to return to Real Madrid?

What changes do you expect Zidane to ask to make over the summer regards transfers

Thanks.

Ed 002
Graham Hunter seems to think that Jose is likely to become Real manager in the summer.
Is this in line with your knowledge of the situation?
Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - He has options and he is the preferred option for Real Madrid. As such it is certainly possible but they have a couple of "back up" options and are intrigued by what may well be the unexpected availability of Allegri.}

I don't mean you ed. I mean the bloody make believe balagues of the world.

Saying that did mourinho turn madrid down? Wow he must have a good gig lined up.

{Ed002's Note - it did not really come to that as there were others who pushed for someone other than JM, who has other options in anycaee.}

Ed can you shed any light on Gareth bales situation? Seems very unhappy at Madrid and increasingly outcast, not used/ trusted by 2 zidane or solari. surely he will leave this summer, and gave to take a sizeable pay cut to do so?

{Ed001's Note - he can't speak Spanish, doesn't try hard enough, the fans hate him (in large part because he won't even try to speak Spanish despite living in Spain for 6 years) and he is always injured. Solari would love to get rid, as would Zidane before him. The only reason he is still there is because Perez loves his marketing potential. It all comes down to Perez.}

I see. Not ideal then. do you think he will go this summer? The whole storming down the tunnel after a win just seems to me like he doesn't want to be there at all. Are any clubs even interested in him anymore?

Thanks for the reply

{Ed001's Note - I think Perez has finally had enough of him now after this incident, so there is every chance that they will try to get rid. It is not that easy though, there is very little interest in him any more. Spurs would love him back but will not pay his wages.}

China calls?

{Ed001's Note - I very much doubt he would go there. That is a major issue, he is so far up his own backside that he thinks he should be the key figure at Madrid.}

16 Feb 2019 14:38:36
He should come back.to.saints. for 60 grand a week haha. Good.insight ed. Cheers

{Ed002's Note - His "agent" (and I use the term in the most general sense) thinks the Manchester United interest remains but the price is very, very high, and as Ed001 has said, finding interest may be difficult. Bale may also make it difficult to sell him.}

Should we be expecting an announcement from Madrid with regard to the signing of Hazard?
Thanks.

I am sure you are aware Hazard spoke to RMC and said a decision has been made.

You said on the latest sharkopod that ramos will likely leave madrid in the summer before an eventual return to sevilla. Could you say where he could possibly move to or should i wait for the next sharkopod? Thanks

{Ed002's Note - He will have offers from China, the Far East, the Middle East and the US I have no doubt.}

Hi eds, i know you mentioned a while ago about the rebuild on going at madrid. I was wondering if you had any updates regarding time scales and targets? Cheers!

{Ed002's Note - The club accept it will take longer than planned and there has been disruption with the change of coach and results. In terms of targets they remain pretty much the same but I would add that they will certainly look to taking Mario Hermoso back as cover - but the player may well reject the chance for fears that he will have little or no game time. The plans with adding Exequiel Palacios and Rodrygo Goes in January remain as they are which will see the effort to move a couple of players on to bring money in rather than make space. There would be several of the summer targets like Dele Alli, Antoine Griezmann, Julian Draxler, Leon Goretzka and Toby Alderweireld who have moved elsewhere or see interest drift away.}

Any truth in the Rumour that Martinez is being considered for the managers job ?
Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I am sure they will consider a few folks but I am not aware of any approach for martinez and I can think of one reason that he would not be a likely choice at all.}

Eds who do you think madrid will go for if they sack their coach? Poch again??

{Ed002's Note - Mauricio Pochettino will be the preferred, although very likely unachievable, target for Perez to replace Julen Lopetegui as coach - but Spurs will block any attempt by Real Madrid to approach him.
Santiago Solari is seen by some as the likely option and it would see promotion from within - but not everybody at the club are convinced he is the person to to coach during this period of significant change - they have been taking advice over the matter. He will be considered but he is, in my view, just as much a risk as Lopetegui
Antonio Conte - Chelsea would be open to a deal for Conte but he may wish to stay in Italy and although he has to be seen as a step in and be successful manager.
Massimiliano Allegri rejected RM before - very unlikely he would do anything but the same again.
I would re-iterate – as a wildcard don't lose sight of Guti as a potential option even though he should perhaps have been given the job in the summer and has since moved elsewhere

What's going wrong at Real Madrid ed? How do you suggest they turn the situation around?
Do you think they will sell Asensio? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - In all honesty they made a mistake with the new head coach and are already of the opinion that Julen Lopetegui is not the person to be guiding them through a period of extensive rebuilding - even though the players are not really his choice he has the responsibility to integrate new players in to the side. The club are aware that they need to adress the coaching situation and have already made enquiries and taken advice about potential replacements for Lopetegui. They are not looking to sell Asensio.}

Ed002, the rumours regarding Real Madrid making a move for Sterling in the near future are intensifying.
Are Madrid really interested in Sterling or is this just rumour-peddling by the English media?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any approach or contact for Sterling from Real Madrid.}

Ed002, any truth that Real are already looking to replace Lopetegui?

{Ed002's Note - Julen Lopetegui is very much at risk of being eased out as the primary target of winning the league is seen as being much arder to achieve than anticipated, the rebuild of the side possibly now taking longer than planned and concerns being expressed that he may not be the guy to manage the side through a difficult period with some players to be thrust on him.}

Ed002, possible to ask where it all went wrong for Real in the summer? Obviously they have the grand rebuilding plan, and Courtois is an important piece, like Odriozola, but resigning Mariano is some come-down from Hazard, Neymar or Mbappe. Any light you can shed on this?

{Ed002's Note - Mariano is completely unrelated to Hazard, Neymar or Mbappe.}

Okay Ed002. Do you expect Madrid to push again for Neymar, Mbappe or Hazard in January or next summer, or have those ships sailed?

{Ed002's Note - TYpically, January is not a time where clubs plan to make changes because of the difficulties clubs see in selling. Although, to be fair, I am aware of certain PL clubs aready making efforts to make changes.}
